SWISS NATURE

Find the right bed for your needs with the questionnaire below. Everyone has different needs, which is why finding the right bedding is so important.

Environment

For our beds from the Swiss Nature collection, we mainly use local woods such as oak, wild oak, beech heartwood or beech, walnut and cherry, which are purchased from certified timber merchants to ensure sustainable forest management.

Design

Solid wood is transformed into a clear concept: First of all, the design of solid wood beds is developed in such a way that the focus is on function. The criteria here are, for example, the lying height, the sleeping system as well as the stability.
The surface treatment is almost exclusively done by hand in order to achieve the best possible optical and sensory effect of the oiled wood, which you immediately feel when using our solid wood beds.

The beech heartwood, which comes from the red beech, is so named when the colour of the heartwood is particularly striking due to the brighter grain. This characteristic is due, according to a recent theory, to the tree's defence measures against fungi and viruses. We appreciate the core beech because of its unique colours

This wood called wild oak, which is particularly noticeable because of its dark, sometimes cracked knots, giving it a very individual and lively appearance. Sometimes you have to close these knots with wood putty, to create a smooth surface.

The oak we use is the second most common deciduous tree in Europe. The wood is light brown in colour and is characterised by its high density and hardness. The heartwood is darker due to the inclusion of tannic acid. The addition of white pigments to the wood oil gives the oak a light wood colour without "covering" the grain.

The Alpine region, where this noble and robust type of pine grows, it is also called Swiss stone pine and Arbe. The trees are up to 25 m high and can be over 1,000 years old. Pine wood is a softwood, so it is a little more prone to pressure points than our other hardwoods and can have resin channels. It gives off a wonderfully warm and soothing scent and provides a pleasant, soothing and relaxing atmosphere. In order not to influence this effect, the Swiss stone pine is only finely sanded and is not surface treated.

Cherry wood has a reddish yellow color with a beautiful grain and is a sought-after precious wood. We use North American cherry wood, which is more uniform and more beautiful in color than European cherry wood. In addition, European cherry is not available as processed wood, except in a single piece. Freshly cut cherry is quite light, but darkens considerably over the years to a very beautiful red-brown color.

Walnut is one of the best deciduous woods in general and has therefore long been used for the construction of high-end furniture. American walnut wood is characterized by a purple to dark brown color. Walnut tends to turn brown with a yellowish cast in daylight. Therefore, it should not be exposed to direct sunlight if you do not want this discoloration.

In North America, this tree is planted in agriculture for the harvest of nuts, while in our country this tree, as a European walnut, occurs only wild and sporadically.
